Smokin' Mandolin #1
- Partagas Cigar Box - 9" x 6 1/2"
- Mahoganey Bolt-on Neck
- IV Tuners (tuners from IV Kit)
- Clam Shell Tailpiece
- Built in Piezo Pickup
- Walnut Red Henry Style bridge
- Black Diamond Mandolin Strings
|
This is my cigar box mandolin prototype. I came up with a way of
attaching the neck using a bolt on design plus a stabilizing overhang.
If the strings and tailpiece are removed, the top can still be opened
up. I also installed a simple piezo transducer pickup that works well.
The sound is suprising good, but nowhere near as loud as a carved top
mandolin, but comparable to some flat tops - hence the pickup.

Smokin' Mandolin #4
- EPC
- Cherry/Walnut Stripe Bolt-on Neck
- Walnut Fretboard
- IV Tuners (tuners from IV Kit)
- Standard Plated Tailpiece
- Built in Piezo Pickup
- Walnut Red Henry Style bridge
- Black Diamond Mandolin Strings
- Modified X-Bracing with turn buckle
|
This is a cigar box mandolin using x-bracing and a round sound hole. I had to add an extra brace
to maintain shape and also put a turn buckle to keep the string tension from distorting the box as well.
The turn buckle doesn't seem to effect the sound, and its pretty light. Will be experimenting with this
a bit.
